The work in detail
Private power pole replacement and installation
If the pole on your property is rotten, leaning or has copped a defect notice, that is exactly our work. We supply and install new private power poles, replace failed ones, and sort the private overhead line that runs from the network to your house or shed. On acreage, where the private line can run a long way from the road, we handle the lot: pole, line, point of attachment and the paperwork with the network.
Overhead and underground service connections
New connections and upgrades, overhead or underground. That covers a new build getting power for the first time, an underground run to a shed or studio, moving an overhead line underground, and upsizing a supply that has run out of capacity. We do the contestable network side that a standard electrician has to bring an ASP in for.
Pole-top work and network access
Accredited to work on the live network, with our own elevated work platform for overhead access. Pole replacements, pole-top hardware, re-tensioning and repairs to overhead services are done by our crew, not passed to a third party.
Metering, meter upgrades and NMI coordination
Meter installations and upgrades, new NMIs for subdivisions and secondary dwellings, and the coordination with your electricity retailer that goes with them. We deal with the retailer and the network so you are not stuck in the middle relaying messages.
Switchboard and consumer mains upgrades
Old switchboards, fuses that should have been breakers, consumer mains that will not carry a modern load. We upgrade boards and mains as part of connection work or as a job on its own, and it is often the sensible time to do it, while the supply is already being worked on.
Temporary builder supply
Temporary power poles and builder supply for construction sites, installed when you need to start and removed when the permanent connection goes live. For builders running multiple lots, we can keep the temporary and permanent connections moving on one schedule.
High-load and three-phase connections
Three-phase and high-load connections for sheds, pumps, workshops and commercial sites, from a standard domestic supply up to 2,500A. If your project needs serious capacity, we scope the connection with the network rather than guessing.
Disconnect and reconnect for other trades
Builders, roofers, painters and renderers often need the service disconnected before they can work safely, then reconnected after. We do same-visit disconnect and reconnect, and because our own civil and tree crews are under the same banner, jobs that mix trades do not need three contractors.
Level 2 across the whole coast run
Most of the Mid North Coast, from Taree through Port Macquarie and Kempsey up to Coffs Harbour, sits on the Essential Energy network. The Newcastle, Hunter and Port Stephens end of our run is Ausgrid country. Roysted is accredited on Essential Energy, Ausgrid and Endeavour Energy, all three NSW networks, so wherever your job sits on the coast, the accreditation is already in place.
Most Level 2 providers hold one network accreditation. Holding all three means one contractor can look after a builder or property owner with jobs spread across the region, without checking whose patch each site falls in.

What is a Level 2 electrician?
A Level 2 electrician is an Accredited Service Provider (ASP) authorised by the NSW networks to work on the service line between the street and your property: connecting and disconnecting supply, installing and replacing power poles, and installing metering. A standard electrician wires your house but is not authorised to touch the network side. For that work they bring in a Level 2 ASP, which is what we are.
Do I need a Level 2 electrician or a regular electrician?
If the job involves the wires between the network and your switchboard, a private power pole, the point of attachment, the service line or the meter, it is Level 2 work. If it is wiring inside the property, power points, lights and circuits, a standard electrician covers it. Plenty of jobs involve both, which is why it helps that we do both ends.
Who is responsible for the power pole on my property?
In NSW, the property owner is responsible for private power poles and the private lines they carry. The network looks after its own poles in the street, but once the line crosses onto your land, maintenance, repairs and replacement are the owner’s job. If a pole is deteriorating it is worth acting before the network issues a defect notice with a deadline attached.
I have been issued a defect notice. What happens now?
A defect notice means the network has found a problem with your private pole or line and set a timeframe to fix it. Send it to us. We quote the repair or replacement, do the work as accredited providers and arrange the sign-off, so the notice is closed out properly.
How much does a private power pole replacement cost?
It depends on the pole type, the length and height of the run, access for machinery, and whether the switchboard or point of attachment needs upgrading at the same time. Rather than quote a number that turns out wrong, we look at the job and give you a firm price before any work starts. Quotes are free and there is no obligation.
Which network areas can you work in?
All of them. We hold ASP accreditation for Essential Energy (most of the Mid North Coast), Ausgrid (Newcastle, Hunter and Port Stephens) and Endeavour Energy. Whichever network your property is on, we are accredited to do the work.
